Eat Out - Shark Fin House

Day 97

We had initially wanted to go Yum Cha on Saturday but Jiaqi had to work so we changed it to today. We made a booking for 6 for the first seating. It is a popular yum cha place and bookings are essential, especially on weekends. We have been there previously for dinner and yum cha. Food wasn't especially good, it was average but apparently, it is one of the better ones in Melbourne and a fave among the girls.

The dim sum ladies push their carts around and you choose the items that you want. The service was good. After the terrible dinner at Camy, we were glad to get some decent service. The waiters kept refilling our tea and they did it with a smile! It was a small table for 6 of us and we had to leave space for the carts to move in and out so we were glad that the waiters helped to clear our plates once we finished the dim sum.

We had the usual fare, 烧卖,虾饺,风爪,糯米鸡,皮蛋粥. We didn't have many fried stuff as the girls are conscious about their weight. Well, I am scared of putting on weight too but I cannot resist fried food. Haha. There weren't many carts going around and we didn't get to have my fave 鲜虾肠粉, 萝卜糕 and Mr Tan's 芋头 and 烧鸭. By the time they pushed out these items, we were already full. :(

The only fried item
Jaiqi loved the 流沙包 and we ordered 4 servings of it the minute we arrived as they need 20 minutes to steam the buns. The waitress who took our order was like, 4? Yes, we want 4. Haha. She was a little shocked. Well, Jiaqi is crazy over it and it is indeed quite tasty. 流沙包 contains salted egg yolk and when steamed to perfection, the yolk will be hot and flowy. Mr Tan and I love salted eggs so anything with salted egg yolk can't be bad. Sadly, the ones we had today wasn't that good. Some of them were not cooked long enough and the yolk was hard and it didn't flow. It was rather disappointing.

We ordered desserts after the meal and I was disappointed with the mango pudding. It was too sweet and I couldn't taste any mango in the pudding. Mr Tan and Shenton had the 豆腐花, and it was nicer than the mango pudding.

Mr Tan and I found the food average and it wasn't cheap. There are other dim sum places and we will definitely be trying them out. Hopefully we can find better ones!
