Eat Out - Fonda Mexican

Day 649

Our 2nd visit to Fonda Mexican because I'm so in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with it!! It's so popular that people are still coming in at 9pm and the whole place is super packed. We waited more than 20 minutes for a table and then another 15 minutes for our food. Thankfully Mr Tan wasn't in the hungry mode, otherwise his face would be even "blacker" than charcoal. Of course, I kept telling him how delicious the food is and how happy I am to be able to eat there again. Haha. Damage control.

A shoutout to everyone who loves Fonda,
Please STOP going there so that it won't be so packed and I can eat my charred corn and mushroom quesadillas again and again and again without having to wait so long! :P

Eat Out - Miyako

Day 641

Monthly anniversary treat
Miyako Japanese Restaurant

The Good
- Friendly and wonderful service
- No need to squeeze for elbow space in the spacious and brightly lit restaurant
- Love the tempura, finally I'm getting real tempura and not breaded prawns
- ♥ ♥ ♥ the fresh sashimi!

The Not so Good
- Weird fushion food in the seafood bento. prefer something more authentic
- The crispy duck was the biggest letdown. Even Mr Tan who usually loves everything duck-related doesn't like it. Don't know how to explain the taste in words, all I can say is, don't order it!

Eat Out - San Churro

Day 635

Winter is totally messing up my plan to lose weight! *argh* I blame it on the cold that's making me eat more than usual. 4 times a week at the gym is not enough for me to lose any weight. Why? Why? Why? Is it because I haven't been using my brain? Not enough activities to burn calories? I've been avoiding carbs but the weight is not dropping. *sigh* The first thing I'm going to do when I get back to SG is to get a Personal Trainer and see a dietician!

Dessert after dinner is such a bad bad bad idea....*devil won again*

Eat Out - Breizoz French Creperie

Day 634

Winter is the best time to have Korean BBQ. Everyone huddle around the hot stove to cook and eat the smoky hot grilled meat right off the grill. SHIOK! Jiaqi and Emily have been raving about Hwaro after their first visit but I found the food to be average. It's one of those places you visit when you are in the mood to splurge but the girls certainly love it to bits. The highlight of the night was our dessert at Breizoz French Creperie. Thin, crisp, sweet and oooooooh-sooooo-sinful! I want more, more, MORE!

Eat Out - Chilli India

Day 628

The BEST curry to date!
Tender and juicy chicken cooked in authentic spices.
The curry was bursting with flavour and oh-so-yummmmmm!
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
We are so going back for its curry and roti. *4 thumbs up*

Eat Out - Madame Sousou

Day 625

Happy Birthday to Mr Tan's "long-lost" sister (she's Tan Chia Chee and he's Tan Chia Loong) who's also his colleague, our neighbour and the hottest girl in our group (the guys in office can't stop drooling over her)!

Happy Birthday to Jenny - our fave Hongkonger who's witty, full of laughs and loves food as much as we do!

Madame Sousou - seriously we're never going back. We spent 3/4 of our time in the restaurant waiting for our food when the place is only half-filled. If not for the fact that we are there to celebrate the girls' birthdays, we would have left. Portions were small, prices were high and they taste average. Everyone grew so tired of waiting that we almost fell asleep at the table. It's torture to wait so long for your food when ur tummy is screaming for food! Staff were friendly but service was not prompt. Our glasses were always empty and we had to ask for refills twice. The shock came when we were told it would cost $10 per pax if we wanted to eat the cake in the restaurant. It's not an extra $10 but $10 per pax!! WTF!?!?! Never again!

Eat Out - Big Boy BBQ

Day 620

Ribs, ribs, ribs...I can have you for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you are saucy, tender and yummilicious. Sadly, I haven't been able to find them anymore. The standard at Meat & Wine has dropped drastically (it's no longer my fave), the ones at Squires Loft and City Grill Room failed to impress and the ones at TGIF's are too dry. My search for yummilicious ribs led me to Big Boy BBQ. Sadly, it didn't make the cut either.

Tonight's menu
Pulled lamb shoulder burger
BBQ chicken wings
1/2 rack BBQ pork ribs
Onion rings
Coleslaw
Garden salad

The good: BBQ chicken wings and onion rings
Chicken wings were flavouful, tender and juicy. Onion rings weren't as good as the ones at Meat & Wine but they weren't oily and very addictive!

The ok: BBQ pork ribs and garden salad
Some of the ribs were burnt and the meat was dry and tough. But other than these burnt parts, the rest were ok so it's abit of hit and miss. For $29, I was expecting something better. Nothing special about the garden salad but it's a good side to have while I dig into the meat pile.

The bad: Pulled lamb shoulder burger and coleslaw
Mr Tan had the lamb burger and didn't like it. The coleslaw was too sour for our liking and it was pretty much untouched after our first bite.

Saucy, smokey, yummilicious ribs...I want YOU! WHERE ARE YOU??

Eat Out - Red Petite

Day 607

I broke Gin's Book of Records today. I slept for a total of 12 hours! Slept at 4am on 31 March and woke up at 4pm on 1 April. I am THE Sleeping Queen. How I wish sleeping can help to burn lots of calories, then I won't have to work so hard at the gym. Fat hope I know. Hahahaha. But I do think that sleeping can be useful when dieting because when I sleep, I don't snack and I don't feel hungry. Take today for example, I woke up at 4pm and the only meal I ate was dinner. Yeah! We had an early dinner as Mr Tan's stomach was growling again. (He had lunch btw!) His stomach screams for food almost every 2 hours. We decided to try this small Thai restaurant, Red Petite, that we drove past yesterday. Bad choice.

Got there around 630 and we were their first customers. Most of the tables had the "reserved" sign on them and as we settled down, diners started to full up the small place and that's when the first sign of bad choice appeared. All angmohs, we were the only Asians.

Tonight's menu
Tom Yum Goong
Red curry prawns with noodles
Claypot prawns

Tom Yum Goong was not spicy enough and we didn't find the taste to be very authentic. Disappointing.

Mr Tan thought he had ordered red curry chicken with rice so when red curry prawns with noodles arrived, we were both taken aback. Either he had pointed to the wrong dish when ordering or the waiter got it wrong. Bad choice. Too much coconut milk, not enough flavour and wrong meat!

My claypot prawns was probably the best dish. Reminded me of the Claypot glass noodle with soft shell crab in black pepper from Thai Express. *drool* But I would prefer more black pepper to spice things up.

Verdict: Small portions, pricey, not authentic, never going back.

Eat Out - Andrew's Hamburgers

Day 606

Hailed by many as Melbourne' best burgers. 92% out of 1175 people voted in its favour on Urbanspoon. Our verdict: Long wait. Cheap and massive. Grilled chicken breast, onions, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and fried egg. All for just $11.50. But it didn't do too well in the taste department. The grilled chicken was dry and tough. There wasn't enough sauce so the burger was kinda dry. Conclusion - Not happy. Grill'd serves better burgers.

Thankfully we bought Laurent cakes for dessert. They are yummilicious!!
Happy happy happy!

Blissful Friday

Day 509

I went for my very first facial in Melbourne at Chanoyu Spa, thanks to Cudo.com. A 2 hour pamper package that left me totally rejuvenated. 30 minute back massage, 45 minute pedicure treatment and 45 minute Sakura facial! Love the body massage and facial! Shiokness. The Japanese therapists were gentle yet firm in their strokes and I love the smell of the Japanese extracts used during the facial. I'm already planning to utilise the $30 voucher for another facial with them. :) The first thing I'm going to do when I return to SG is to go for facial! I need Vera to extract all the black heads, white heads and everything that's stuck in my pores!

By the time my pampering session ended, it was dinner time @ Cafe Sienna. Thankfully we got a seat inside the restaurant as it was getting really chilly these few days. Service was fast and friendly and although the restaurant was packed, there was ample space between tables and you don't feel stressed or rushed. Nice place to hang out if you don't really care about the food because the food is average despite the higher than average prices. The only dish that we enjoyed was the Mediterranean Dips with Pizza Bread. Not sure what which dip was, but we each found one that we enjoyed so it was voted the best dish of the night.

Once again, thank you Entertainment Book for the great one-for-one deal! :)
