Day 75
It's Saturday again! After last night's super cold weather, I was really happy to see the sun this morning when I woke up! It's market time! But the sun was deceiving. The wind was strong and the worst thing was, it suddenly started to rain when we reached at the tram stop. There's no shelter at the tram stop so we were at the mercy of the rain. Luckily the tram came and we were spared the agony of standing in the rain.
After marketing, we went Dessert House for lunch. I had baked rice and Mr Tan had his fave 虾酱鸡饭。 We went home to settle our groceries before going to meet Jasmine, Allison, Jiaqi and Shenton for dinner at Old Kingdom.
Old Kingdom is famous for their Peking Duck. It is best to call and reserve a table and they have 2 seatings. One at 6pm and the other at 8pm. Here, they serve it as a three-course duck meal. They don't cut the skin until it is paper thin like what we have back home. Instead, they cut the skin and meat off together.
First Course - Skin & Meat wrapped in Pancake with Cucumber and Spring onion
Second Course - Stir-fry Duck Meat with Noodles, Bean Sprouts and Spring Onion (we added $10 for the noodles)
Third Course - 咸菜鸭汤
Each duck cost $55 and we ordered 2 ducks to share among 6 of us. The total bill was $129, including the tea and extra charge for noodles.
Verdict: The skin was crispy and the duck meat was quite tender. The pancake was paper thin. Not oily,没有太多面粉而且吃多不会腻。I like it! :) But the noodles and soup was average, nothing to wow about. I would definitely come here with Mr Tan the next time he has a craving for crispy duck!
We didn't even eat it in Beijing and you ate it in Australia?! LOL
ReplyDeleteHahaha...I doubt I will ever have a chance to eat the authentic Peking Duck in its country of origin...
