OMG! It's not an EXTRACTION, It's an OPERATION!

Day 352

Mama Goh called Dr Eric Ong early this morning to try and book an appointment today for my wisdom tooth extraction. Not sure how she managed to convince the nurse to slot me in today, but she did it! Way to go, Mama Goh!

We used to visit Dr Ong when we were younger as it was near our old shophouse. He was the dentist who extracted my "tiger teeth". After the extraction, there were gaps between my teeth and I thought I should put on dental braces to align and position my teeth but who would have thought that Dr Ong would turn down my business? He actually convinced Mama Goh that I don't have to wear braces as I'm still very young and my teeth would move themselves into place over time, it might not be perfect but they would be fine. Well, he was actually right. It has been 8 years since I last stepped into his clinic. :)

My teeth aren't in the best shape. He found 2 decaying teeth and had to fix them. It was rather uncomfortable as he fixed them but that wasn't the bad news. After taking the x-ray of my teeth, he dropped the bombshell. My lower wisdom tooth cannot be extracted normally, it has to be extracted through an operation as it's growing horizontally. When I told Dr Ong that the dentist yesterday wanted to do an extraction, he was taken aback. He looked at my tooth again and said it's impossible to do a normal extraction when the tooth is in this position. I told him that I'm leaving for Japan at the end of next week and given the tight timeline, he said it's best for me to do the operation this week so that there's enough time for the wound to heal before I fly.

The appointment has been fixed for Friday at 4pm. I hope I'll be able to eat by Sunday. It's the last Sunday that I have to spend with my family. I've already booked a dim sum session. What a way to spend my holiday....

  3. Hi Eileen,

Welcome to Mel! :) Hope you are enjoying your stay and getting used to life away from home. Do you have a blog that I can visit? I can't wait to get back to work..rotting in boredom!

Sashimi is everywhere in Mel, I just came back from Perth and it was difficult to find any there. So I'm beginning to appreciate Mel more now but Sydney is still THE best.

Anyway, Dr Eric Ong isn't the cheapest dentist around but he's meticulous and friendly. I had my wisdom tooth extracted at Camden Medical Centre - recommended by Dr Eric Ong. Can't remember the clinic's name though but if you do need to go there for any extraction, Dr Ong will be able to arrange for you.

  5. Hey,

no worries. He's not those old uncle, prob in his 40-50s? He does cleaning etc and do call to book appt. He can be really busy at times and doesn't accept walk-ins.

So are you gals studying here? Ive been trying to get a job since I came, applied for bubble tea and even Maccas but nobody wanted me! Not sure if it's because I'm too old or because I'm here on a spouse visa. I'm staying in Southbank, right next to Crown Casino actually. We can definitely meet up for coffee!

I'm not enjoying my tai-tai life, I can feel my brain cells dying due to boredom and I'm afraid I can't get them to work as hard as before when I return to SG. Been pestering hubby to allow me to return to SG first. Haha. He's working here, otherwise we'll be eating grass! :)

  6. hello!

Thanks for the advice reg Dr Ong.

My friend is but Im not. I think it might have something to do with visa? Cos they might not be sure what the requirements of the visa include and exclude. haahh.. its a sign that u shouldnt work la. So many of my ex-colleagues hope and pray that their hub will be sent overseas and they can apply for NPL to accompany them and also take a break.

Although its true that its boring at times, but maybe if u think abt gg back to the stressful system and you might not have an opp like this, you might enjoy this period more? hahah.. true true, which I am at the moment lor. Hope i dun become a cow.

Will arrange a kopi session soon.. maybe next week or so? ;)

  7. I think it is best to trust your dentist's diagnosis. I am sure Dr Wong knows what's best for you. We also have a family dentist who takes care of all our teeth. We trust his every decision, and he has so far taken excellent care of all our teeth. Be brave!
