Ah Gong's Birthday Dinner with the Little Ones

Day 303

Venue: Guhng (The Palace)
Date: 1st June 2011
Little Ones: Jasmine, Shenton, Emily, Junlin & Yling Yling
Old One: Moi
Ah Gong: Mr Tan

Mr Tan is called Ah Gong by the little ones because he behaves like one. Haha. It's also because he's the eAudit GOD among them and he's their unofficial technical helpdesk.

Found Guhng through the Entertainment Book and there's a 25% discount or up to $40 in value. Because we are a group of 7, we could have used 2 cards but our dear Jasmine lost her Entertainment Card. Korean food isn't the guy's favourite food as there's a need to wait for the food to be cooked. They prefer to eat their food in one go and they always end up eating less than what they usually do.

According to those who ate the wagyu beef, it was really tasty and we actually ordered 2 serves of it. The chicken was tender and I like the chilli paste. It was a huge slab but it's probably the fave of the night. We had 2 serves of it but it still seemed insufficient but we were rather tired of waiting for it to be cooked. I wanted to order fried chicken or some chicken but there isn't any on the menu. Most of the items were for the charcoal grill. The pork belly was really FAT, too much fats for my liking. We also ordered the fowl fillet and it was mostly fats again. The seafood pancake was lacking in seafood but the good thing was that it wasn't oily! The kimchi soup was spicy and super comforting, especially in this cold weather.

The food was pretty alright but the suction for our grill wasn't working too well and the smoke was everywhere. Compared to Shou, this is really smoky. The service was good and the waitress helped us to cook the food but she wasn't too skilful with the tongs, scissors and she accidentally scalded Shenton on his hand! She was very apologetic about it. The only downside was that we had to keep asking them to refill our water. We saw many Koreans dining there but we wouldn't be returning any time soon as there are just too many Korean restaurants out there for us to try!
