Movie Night Out

Day 59

We went for our very first movie here, courtesy of Mr Tan's company. Employees watch for free and they can bring in a guest for $5. The movie isn't something that we would go and watch but since it is free, why not?

It is the first time that I am in a theatre with 90% of the audience in suits and corporate wear. Seems like some movie premiere. Haha. The theatre is a small and cosy one. There are 2 halls in the theatre and they only sell popcorn, chips, cake and of course beer and wine. We wanted to buy some finger food as we had not had our dinner but there was none. In the end, we bought some dim sim. The people here love dim sim and we have no idea why. It is a Chinese-inspired meat dumpling-style snack food which normally consists of a large ball of pork or other meat, cabbage and flavourings, encased in a wrapper similar to that of a more traditional dumpling.
THE Dim Sim!
During the movie, Mr Tan actually fell asleep! The movie was that exciting. Haha. Watching a movie here is not like back home. Nobody talks or even whispers during the show. Luckily Mr Tan didn't snore in the theatre, otherwise it would be so embarrassing! Oh, by the way, the movie is "Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps."

After the movie, we went to one of my fave dining place to have our dinner. Pancake Dessert House! The food is good, cheap and fast! I ate my fave Salt and Pepper Chicken with rice! Yum yum! I love the tender fried chicken with the onion and green pepper. So so yummy...writing about it is making me drool! I must learn how to cook it so that I can have it at home everyday!

Returning My Online Purchase

Day 57

Received my online purchase from Yesstyle.com.au and sadly, I'm returning three of the seven items. :( (did not even take picture of the third item, too disappointed with it)
It is rather troublesome to return the items as I need to incur the shipping costs but after some calculation, I will still be able to get back about $50 credit, so return it is! I doubt I will be buying clothes online again unless I am unable to find clothes that I like over here. I miss shopping in Singapore and Hong Kong!!!

Apple Memo Pad - Kawaii :)
To be returned - shorter than what is stated on the website
To be returned - totally unflattering on me

The Royal Melbourne Show (25 Sept 2010)

Day 54

This is another first for us! The weather was great today and the four of us made our way to the Showgrounds after lunch. Tickets are expensive at $29 but it's all about the experience!
Our Tickets
Inside the Showgrounds
It is a HUGE funfair for kids. Showbags filled with chocolates, chips, toys, magazines; Thrill rides filled with screaming teenagers and adults; Pavilions filled with livestock, animals, food or people; Games booths filled with softtoys and gamers and Arena filled with audience who are eating and drinking. Although today is the AFL grand final, which is like one of THE most important events in Melbourne, it was still crowded here. Oh by the way, the 2 teams drew in the grand final and there will be a replay next weekend. Yes, a replay. Everyone, from the players to the fans were simply stunned by the results. Okay, now back to the Royal Melbourne Show. There were so many showbags on sale and it is definitely one of the main draws of the Show.

I wanted to get the Tim Tam Showbag but it was already sold out. Sob Sob. Mr Tan bought a For Him Showbag which contains Men's magazines for his bathroom reading.

Tim Tam Showbag - I love Tim Tam and I like the slippers!

I wasn't interested in any of the other showbags so we only bought one at the end of the day. I was interested in the thrill rides though but none of them was keen on the rides! There were also carnival games and some won big softtoys! Not sure how much money they spent before winning it but looking at the big smiles on their faces, I reckon it must have been fun! You can go around sampling food and drinks too but we were too full after our lunch at Dessert House.

I wonder if this Meh Meh can actually see anything...
This is a cake!
The foursome
We will probably not go again next year unless I can find people to go on the rides with me! But it was a great day out as the weather was simply terrific today! I love the sun! =)

One of the Many Firsts - Online Purchase

Day 53

Since we arrived in Aus, I have been embarking on a journey of many firsts!

My List of Firsts to date
1) I'm not working
2) I'm actually cooking dinner almost everyday for Mr Tan
3) Cleaning the toilet
4) Ironing clothes
5) Having a blog
6) Buying clothes online!

Mr Tan couldn't believe it when I told him that I bough
t clothes online as he knows how picky I am when it comes to clothes. I can go on and on trying clothes but end up buying nothing. I am not sure about where to go for my shopping here and haven't been able to find clothes that I like. But I have done some research and hopefully will be heading to the right places soon!

I bought clothes from 2 different sites and the first batch
has arrived! 2 jackets and 4 tops. The jackets are of pretty good quality but I can't say the same for the tops. They look like those $10 tops that I can buy from Bugis Street back home. So...I doubt I will be buying from this site again. I am eagerly waiting for the other site to deliver my order and I'm praying hard that they are of better quality. *cross my fingers*

Gin's Kitchen - "Or Lua" + Seaweed Soup + Steamed Broccoli & Prawns

Day 50

Welcome to Gin's Kitchen! :)

Gin's kitchen has been in operation since 4th August and Chef (that's me! hahaha :P) has been getting more adventurous! Today, Chef tried to cook "Or Lua" or otherwise known as Oyster Omelette and it actually tasted quite nice. (according to Mr Tan) This is Mr Tan's favourite dish back home. Every week we buy fresh oysters from the market and he usually eats them with Tobasco and lemon. I was short of time today and thus decided to steam some broccoli and prawns. The prawns turned out to be surprisingly good! It was crunchy and tasty! But the broccoli was overcooked and was so soft that they were on the verge of disintegrating. haha. I also cooked Seaweed + Tofu + Pork soup this week. I love this soup! Yum Yum Yum! :)

2nd Trip - The Grampians (18 - 19 Sept)

Day 47 and 48

Another road trip over the weekend! :)

Mr Tan was our driver for the trip once again. He said that he volunteered to drive so that I can sit in front and enjoy the bigger leg room. :) It was a 3 hours drive to the Grampians and we had a semi-auto car. Nissan Dualis, not something that we have back home and it was a new and bigger car for the 5 of us. Mr Tan was happily playing with the gear box and testing out the top speed of the car. It probably scared our 3 passengers as they made sure they had their seat belt on at all times!

It was a fun trip although it was really really tiring! We walked and walked and walked and walked...it was indeed a great workout for me. Boroka Lookout, Reid Lookout, Balconies, MacKenzie Falls, we covered everything! After all the hard work, we decided to reward ourselves the next day by visiting the wineries of the Pyrenees. Drink and make merry! :)
